Artisan Bakery Conversion System
Subtractive UX & Order Flow Architecture for Local Food Business
Transformed a cluttered, confusing local bakery website into a high-trust, high-conversion ordering engine by systematically eliminating visual and navigational noise.
What was difficult, fragmented, or broken?
A popular local bakery was inundated with repetitive phone calls asking for basic menu details and hours because their legacy website buried essential information under paragraphs of decorative text and broken buttons.
Why the obvious solution wasn't enough
The previous designer added more features, popups, and banners to fix engagement, creating cognitive overload and driving mobile bounce rates higher.
My Role
What I Built
- A ruthless subtractive redesign stripping away 70% of unnecessary page weight.
- An immediate 3-intent navigation hierarchy: Hours/Location, Current Menu, Custom Cake Ordering.
- Mobile-first responsive ordering flow with interactive before/after transformation proofing.
How I Approached It
Applied the principle that local commerce sites should be invisible utilities: get the customer from hungry to ordered with minimal friction.
AI is an instrument, not an authority.
Used AI image optimization pipelines to compress high-res food photography while preserving visual appetite appeal.
Key Decisions & Tradeoffs
Replaced complex third-party ordering plugin with direct, high-speed inquiry forms.
The Result
Reduced inbound phone inquiries for basic information by an estimated 60% and increased direct custom order submissions.
