The Valley of Please Understand Me

A low basin where the air is thick with explanations that were never asked for.

Field Survey Passage:

The Valley of Please Understand Me did not ask for truth. It asked for paperwork. In this basin, you could spend forty years assembling evidence to prove you were cold in the snow, while the committee sat before a blazing hearth and asked for three more notarized statements before they would concede the presence of frost.

Cartographer’s Marginal Notes:

No explanation ever satisfied a court that held a verdict before hearing the plea.

Survey Mark 04

A discarded ledger of defense briefs, each letter signed by someone who forgot that leaving did not require a signature.

The Wolves//CAT

Not monsters, but an audience that was never listening to your explanations in the first place.

The Inherited Maps//CAT

The surveys drawn by people who survived a different wilderness and demanded you use their coordinates.

Field Survey // Zero Datum

She stopped carrying other people's legends. If a marsh was dangerous, she marked it as dangerous, regardless of how often she had been told it was a lawn.

The presence who stops waiting for the world to explain itself, and begins instead to name the ground she is standing upon.
